Research and projects

The Australian Wagyu Association is committed to improving the Australian Wagyu herd to enable breeders and beef producers to improve their business objectives.

Working in collaboration with industry, the Association has worked toward:

  • Developing a base level of EBVs through the Genetic Collaborative Research Project
  • Identify animals that perform well in a feedlot environment in the Sire Progeny Net Feed Intake program
  • Ongoing assessment of objective carcase measurement utilising the Meat Image Japan camera technology, MIJ-30
  • Provided Indexes to assist in determining animals that suit production systems; BreedObject $Indexes
  • Supported individual research programs undertaken by AWA members through the Wagyu Fellowship 
  • Enhance nutrition for pasture fed animals through the Wagyu Feed Calculator App
