The Australian Wagyu Association is pleased to announce a Wagyu Webinar series, to bring the global Wagyu sector the very latest information on improving genetics and managing breeding in Wagyu. 

Held fortnightly, industry experts and the AWA representatives will present webinars on key subjects. Information on additional Wagyu Webinars will be posted once the topics and speakers are confirmed.

The Wagyu Breeder $Index complements the suite of Wagyu profitability indexes now in extensive use by the industry to increase profitability.

The new Wagyu Breeder $Index is designed to support selection for enhanced pastoral-based Fullblood Wagyu production, focussing on superior maternal performance to deliver improved calf survivability, 200-400 day growth and profitable feeder production outcomes.

WEBINAR TWO

Genetic Diversity Initiatives
The second Wagyu Webinar focused on prefectural linkages between our Japanese Black herd and their Japanese origins. The AWA has been working on a range of initiatives to better understand genetic diversity within the Fullblood Japanese Black population with our research partner, the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU). This work has significantly improved the pedigree linkages to the Japanese Registry and determined Prefectural Values for HerdBook registered Fullblood Japanese Black animals.

DATA to EBVs: How EBVs are calculated
Part of the AWA EBV review series

In the third Wagyu Webinar, describes how EBVs are generated, starting with your data, right through to the final EBV.  The impact of data quality and genomics on EBV calculations and a review of trends in Wagyu in the past 10 years is also presented.

These topics will be presented by Professor Rob Banks and Drs Yuandan Zhang and Matt Wolcott from the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU).
